QANTAS NAMES NEW 737-800 “EUDUNDA”
ADELAIDE, 19 May 2005: Qantas has today officially named its latest
Boeing 737-800 aircraft Eudunda in a special ceremony attended by
Eudunda’s Councillors, members of the Chamber of Commerce and tourism
associations.

Qantas Regional General Manager South Australia Martin Port said the aircraft
with the registration number VH-VYD is the airline’s 25th Boeing 737-800 and the
first to arrive from the Seattle plant this year.
“Eudunda arrived in Australia earlier this week and I’m delighted
to say that it will begin Australian domestic services from today.”
Mr Port said that the Qantas Group had an established program of naming all
aircraft in the Group’s fleet after Australian towns.
“The naming program recognises that the Qantas Group carry customers from towns
and regional centres right across Australia,” he said.
Mr Port presented a framed print of Eudunda at the Boeing Seattle
plant to the Chairman of the Regional Council of Goyder, Laurie Sullivan, at the
Eudunda Club today to commemorate the naming.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft is 39.5 metres in length, cruises at over 850
kilometres per hour and seats 168 customers in a two-class configuration.

Eudunda is high in the ranges beyond the Barossa Valley, about 1˝ hour’s drive
from Adelaide. The Eudunda area was originally named Eudundacowi or Jadundakawi
by the Nadjuri Aboriginal people who lived by the springs which inspired the
name. Eudundacowi literally translated means 'water out of the ground'.
